What do I do if I encounter a vicious dog? If you have encountered a vicious dog or experienced a vicious dog attack, call 911. A police report is required. Your police department will then determine if Animal Control needs to be notified.
What should I do if I have a sick or injured animal and my vet is closed? If you have a sick or injured animal and it is after normal business hours, please call 652-6501 or the Savannah Emergency Clinic at 355-6113.
I have a problem with a feral animal. What do I do? Animal Control offers traps for the removal of "ferrel" cats, opossums, and raccoons. Cats with known owners may not be trapped.
If you are in need of a trap please call Animal Control Dispatch at 912-525-2408 to be added to our trap list.
Please keep in mind that Animal Control has a limited number of traps and there could be a wait in excess of 30 days. However, if you are able to confine the animal in your own trap, Animal Control will respond and remove that animal the same day you call and notify us.
You may purchase traps at your local hardware/farm service store, or some pet stores.
What if my pet is impounded on a holiday or a weekend or any day that inspections is closed? Go to the shelter and identify the pet, and you will be given a pet release form. This form must be taken to the information desk at SCMPD headquarters located at Oglethorpe and Habersham. There you will pay the impound and boarding fee and will be given a receipt. Take the receipt back to the shelter to finish the process.
After I have my animal inoculated for rabies, am I required to do anything else? Yes.Your animal must be registered and a tag issued and worn by the animal. This is both a City and County Ordinance. Pet Registration Page
