Pet Registrations  

Annual Rabies Tag System
To assist pet owners in complying with Chatham County Animal Control Ordinance. Chatham County has adopted the following procedures. Pet tags are renewed annually within thirty (30) days of each annual rabies inoculation. Tags may be obtained through the mail. addressed to P.O. Box 9522, Savannah, GA 31412 or in person from the Chatham County Department of Building Safety which is located at 1117 Eisenhower Drive. Savannah . GA 31405 (across the Stree1 from McDonalds) or at the Chatham County Administrative Annex. 295 Police Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31405 (off Chatham Parkway). Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Chatham County Board of Commissioners approved the following fee structure. License fees for dogs and cats will range from $5.00 to $35.00 per animal depending on whether or not the pet has been spayed or neutered.

The fees are as follows:

Registration of Dogs & Cats  

All dogs and cats which have become four (4) months of age shall be inoculated against rabies, and their owner Shall obtain a license for suCh dogs or cats Within thirty (30) days of each annual inoculation. All tags obtained through the mail must be accompanied by a check or money order (NO CASH) made out to Chatham County Animal Control. Please send one copy of each "inoculation certificate. Keep the other for your records.


Vaccination and Licensing Fine  

Article II Dogs and Cats Generally : Section 22-201
2 a. Any person owning a dog or cat and does not comply with this shall be in violation of this ordinance, provided that a person shall register his or her dog or cat within thirty (30) days of the rabies vaccination, or thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of Chatham County. Non-compliance and the issuance of an ordinance citation shall result in a set fine of $50.00.

County Ordinance on Dogs at Large  

It shall be unlawful for any dog to be on the streets, lanes, highways, or roads unless such dog is firmly on a leash held by a person. It shall be the duty of any owner or possessor or any person who harbors or keeps any dog confined securely within his own premises and and not permit Such dog to run or have access to run on the streets. Any dog-at-large picked up by the Animal Control officer shall be subject to a $35.00 impoundment fee and a $10.00 per day boarding fee.
